Description

The Manager for Occupational Health and Safety will oversee the development, implementation, and oversight of the City’s health and safety programs. The role ensures a safe and compliant work environment through risk assessments, legal adherence, and fostering a culture of safety and wellness. The manager will lead key divisions, prepare reports, conduct audits, and collaborate across departments to mitigate risks. This includes the implementation and monitoring of an OHS Management System aligned with ISO 45001 and oversight of contractual agreements to ensure compliance.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and oversee City health and safety programs
• Conduct risk assessments and ensure adherence to legal regulations/statutory compliance
• Manage key divisions within the Occupational Health & Safety and Compliance Branch
• Prepare management reports using the EHS system
• Conduct regular audits
• Provide OHS training to minimize workplace hazards
• Collaborate with departments to identify and mitigate safety risks
• Develop, implement, and monitor an OHS Management System framework aligning with ISO 45001
• Oversee contracts and tender documents, ensuring compliance with agreements

Qualifications

• Relevant B Degree related to occupational health and safety management
• Working knowledge of relevant Acts and Regulations pertaining to Occupational Health and Safety
• 8 years or more relevant experience, including extensive management experience in a complex operations environment
• Proven managerial and functional experience
• Knowledge and experience in ISO 45001
• Proficiency in MS Office
• Valid Code 08 Driver’s License
